    Hello, dear Friends,

Give me you BEST, and I give you THE FORCE.

    I)Translate into English:

    4. « Eh bien ! Tu n’as vraiment rien à dire ? »
    5. « Me décevoir est bien la seule chose que tu n’as jamais manqué de faire ! »

    II)Translate into French:

América found him at the bottom of the path, bundled in the twilight like a heap of rags. She’d walked nearly eight miles already, down out of the canyon to the highway along the ocean where she could catch the bus to Venice for a sewing job that never materialized, and then back again, and she was like death on two feet. Two dollars and twenty cents down the drain and nothing to show for it. In the morning, at first light, she’d walked along the Coast Highway, and that made her feel good, made her feel like a girl again – the salt smell, people jogging on the beach, the amazing narrow-shouldered houses of the millionaires growing up like mushrooms out of the sand – but the address the Guatemalan woman had given her was worth nothing. All the way there, all the way out in the alien world, a bad neighbourhood, drunks in the street, and the building was boarded up, deserted, no back entrance, no sewing machines, no hard-faced boss to stand over her and watch her sweat at three dollars and thirty-five cents an hour, no nothing. She checked the address twice, three times, and then she turned round to retrace her steps and found that the streets had shuffled themselves in the interim, and she knew she was lost.

    T. C. BOYLE, The Tortilla Curtain.

OPTIONAL! III) PLAYING and WORKING WITH WORDS: Using THE 8 WORDS given below (the 2 verbs can be put in whatever tenses or forms you fancy but MUST remain verbs!), 2 adjectives, 2 nouns and 2 link words, (you CANNOT change the nature of the words!) and the suitable punctuation, search your minds, think hard and create AN ONLY meaningful SENTENCE.
You CANNOT use two or more compulsory words consecutively! PLEASE, WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR SENTENCE, PUT CAPITALS TO THESE WORDS!
FREEDOM!
Voici les éléments imposés cette fois :
    - (to) STAND- (to) CHECK – An ADDRESS – An ENTRANCE – HARSH – NATIVE – ALREADY – EVER- + un adjectif composé (en ed).

    IV) OPTIONAL too! EXPRESSION:

Now that you've been practising "streams of consciousness", write América's when she realises she's lost! (no more than 100 words!)
Of course, I give you THE FORCE... while you give me your BEST!
    Go for it!

    Hello Here4U

    Réponse : Ex 159/ bathing in the heat de here4u, postée le 30-06-2019 à 11:37:54 (S | E)
    Hello!

Tu as vu ça, Maxwell!
Je me suis trompée ... So, why not?

    III.
What's going on,is it a nightmare?I am dreaming, where the hell am I?I no longer have landmarks, where is my family ? so far from me,they put in me all their hopes.Impossible of coming home like that, shameful,empty-handed,and how to get back, by which way? I know anybody in that country. There is not my usual universe. What can I do?alone,no money, anyone for helping me.God please,be good, protect me,blesse me. (83 mots)

    Hello Here4U!
I just loved your choice of Boyle's excerpt with so many prepositions. Yet, I'm not sure I've understood the 1st sentence in relation to the rest of the text.

    I)Translate into English:

Pay a shoemaker to resole my shoe? Anything else? I'm not particularly attached to my pair, especially as it cost me next to nothing.

Stop scowling at me... You're not going to take what she claims at face value on the grounds that you saw me leaving her house, are you? We're in this together..." "I'm setting the tone: if you've cheated me, I'll leave you."

Do you want me to get out of your life? All you have to do is say and I'll gladly obey...

I'm not crazy that street I took earlier where is it now drat it didn't look like this one nor that one I can't remember seeing those houses those cars

She checked the address twice, three times, and then she turned round to retrace her steps and found that the streets
had shuffled themselves in the interim, and she knew she was lost.

She’d walked nearly eight miles already, down out of the canyon to the highway along the ocean where she could catch the bus to Venice for a sewing job that never materialized, and then back again, and she was like death on two feet. Two dollars and twenty cents down the drain and nothing to show for it.

III) PLAYING and WORKING WITH WORDS:
Merci. )
Voici les éléments imposés cette fois :
    - (to) STAND- (to) CHECK – An ADDRESS – An ENTRANCE – HARSH – NATIVE – ALREADY – EVER- + un adjectif composé (en ed). dried soup, dried milk, dried fruits

CHECKED in a HARSH way, I left the clinic, whose ADDRESS is opposite of the ENTRANCE of "Villa Necker" , ALREADY Jerome Bonaparte's residence, went up the steps flanking its park and STOOD before my NATIVE house, having a short epiphany I won't EVER forget:
a BLACK-HAIRED boy greeted me, from the open window of my former bedroom…. notwithstanding the shutters were closed! 61

…..doubtless it was due to a joke of hot weather.

Thanking you very much indeed for giving me such a fanciful inspiration, I wish you a great week.

    So long.

    III – Expression

Dios mio .. she thought, rather desperate.. Where can I be ? She sat down on a low wall and looked around her : nothing, not a soul. Which way did she come from, she could not remember, crushed as she was by this last stroke of fate ! She was so craving for a work whatever it could be. She needed money, life was so hard in this country which she thought would be heaven … And now she was lost, lost in a sort of scorching hell, far from her home, far from her family, far from everything …

Thank u once more Here4U - It seemed a bit easier this time probably you pity us because of the heat…!

    Hello, Dear Friends,

Lien internet

    Lien internet

    I)Translate into English:

Having to pay a shoemaker to have my shoe resoled! You’re kidding me! I don’t particularly care about this shoe, (especially) as it cost me next to nothing.

    - pour ressemeler ma chaussure = pour faire ressemeler … => to have something done=> to have my shoe resoled.
    - être attaché = tenir à = to mean a lot to sb/ to be important to sb/ to matter to sb/ to care about sg – « attached to » était trop fort ici, il sous-entend des sentiments …
I’m not that fond of my shoe! (Why not ? utiliser "that" et non pas "this" et l’accentuer ! = I’m not as fond of my shoes as that… [A «strange» sentence! ]
    - 3 fois rien = next to nothing.

"Stop scowling at me... You're not going to take what she claims at face value just because you saw me leaving her house, are you? We're in this together..." "I show you my hand! If you have cheated on me, I’ll leave you!"

    - faire les gros yeux = to look sternly at stg/ look disapprovingly at/ give sb a stern look/ give someone a disapproving look/ frown/ reprovingly/ scowl/ to look daggers/ give the stink eye/ to gawk/
    - prendre pour argent comptant = take/ accept at face value
    - annoncer la couleur = to show one’s hand/ to lay one's cards on the table/ to declare trumps/ to set out/ lay down the rules
    - Tromper quelqu’un = to cheat/ to deceive/ to be unfaithful to/

«You want me out of your life! Just say it and I’ll obey willingly!»

« You want me to get out of your life » est exact, mais peu naturel à l’oral …

    4. « Eh bien ! Tu n’as vraiment rien à dire ? »
Well, well! You really have nothing to say! You're never at a loss for words!" "Errr... A lot of words are coming to my mind but, sorry, "Congratulations" isn't one of them!"

    5. « Me décevoir est bien la seule chose que tu n’as jamais manqué de faire ! »
Disappointing me is really the only thing you've never failed at!

    - Me décevoir = le fait de me décevoir=> gérondif.
    - Manquer de faire = to fail to do something/ to fail at (doing) something

    - Nothing to show for it = rien en retour !

III) PLAYING and WORKING WITH WORDS:
    - (to) STAND- (to) CHECK – An ADDRESS – An ENTRANCE – HARSH – NATIVE – ALREADY – EVER- + un adjectif composé (en ed).

    - How HARSH it was to reach this archeological site inside this ancient Peruvian area but after CHECKING my map, I was certain the ADDRESS given by my friends was right, I stood in front of the most RENOWNED temple ENTRANCE I had EVER seen in my life, which reminded me that one similar temple had ALREADY been built in my NATIVE country in times of yore ... 64

    - I should have CHECKED the ADDRESS before STANDING for one hour at the ENTRANCE of the room where an EVER so WELL-DRESSED patronizing receptionist finally said with a HARSH voice that they only hired NATIVE speakers and they ALREADY had one ! (42)

    - The juge's ENTRANCE into the court, was solemn; never, EVER had this SEVERE man granted a pardon to a defendant ; his ADDRESS was brief: life imprisonment; the BLUE-EYED defendant, a NATIVE American (a blue-eyed Native American ? Are you sure ? ), STOOD UP... as he had ALREADY considered this verdict, he CHECKED his dismay.(47)

    - CHECKED in a HARSH way, I left the clinic, whose ADDRESS is opposite the ENTRANCE of "Villa Necker", ALREADY Jerome Bonaparte's residence, went up the steps flanking its park and STOOD before my NATIVE house, having a short epiphany I won't EVER forget: a BLACK-HAIRED boy greeted me from the open window of my former bedroom… although the shutters were closed! 61
