    New-York / correction.

Merci

    Introduction :
New York named « The Big Apple » or « The city that never sleeps » is a city of superlatives. It’s one of the biggest city in the world, situating in the North East of the United States of America . It sometimes considered as the capital of the world as it’s getting together lots of religions and because of its business capitals. But for its eight million inhabitants, New York remains a city of neighbourhood divised in five boroughs. There are Harlem, Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. So in this work, i’m going to describe and explain with photographs, two places in New York.
    1) One the first photograph, we can see a red and yellow shop; it’s probably a supermarket. There are lots of words written in Chinese. I notice that it representes Chinatown as people have slanting eyes and their skins are a bit yellow; so they must be chinese.
Chinatown is a “Chinese town” in the South of Manhattan (which is one of the five boroughs). So it’s a district with a large population of chinese imigrants. It’s one of the larguest chinese communities outside of Asia because the population is estimated between 150 000 and 300 000 inhabitants.
In the middle of the 18th century, shopkeepers and Chinese sailors arrived in the United States of America by the Pacific coast. But Chinese were victims of the racial segregation, so they became withdrawn, and by the time, Chinatown became an autonomous district with a society which gave a job for the new comers and help about economy. Today, it’s a touristic place. In my opinion, I found it is a bit suprising because this minority of ethnics are very integrated on the society. For proof, the names of the streets, the official panels and advertisings are written in Chinese.

    2) The second photograph shows a man who’s crossing the road which seems wide and long. Next to him, in the foreground, there are many cars as a tipical American’s taxi which is yellow and a police car.In the background, there are high buildings. On their fronts, we can see lots of advertisings like Coca Cola or Samsung. The photograph must take place in Broadway. It’s a wide avenue in New York which runs the full lengh of Manhattan and continues into The Bronx. Broadway is the oldest avenue in New York because this way was taken just after the first settlers’ arriving. They named it the Wickquasgeck Trail. This way crossed swamps and rocks in all the lengh of the Island. Today, in Broadway, we can recognize famous places like The Madison Square, Times Square and Columbus Circle. Broadway is also the place where musicals are playing. The most famous theatres are around Times Square and the most popular comedies are playing on Broadway.
