    Résumé étude scientifique - Correction
    Message de morganoux20 posté le 28-11-2009 à 19:27:57 (S | E | F)

    Bonsoir,

The dogwhelk (Nucella lapillus or Thais lapillus) is a species of predatory sea snail; a carnivorous marine rocky shore gastropod mollusc in the family Muricidae.

The study realise tempt to pick out the demographic structure of Nucella lapillus populations present on the rocky shore without to much wave stream, and the effects of the exposure mode on this distribution.

The goal of the study is to analyse the size of a lot of N.lapillus, to obtain a good representation of the height on different age classes. A big collect on a large number of individuals is sufficient. A transect was conducted along the different stages of the intertidal rocky shore of Penvins (Morbihan, France) over a total distance of 50 m and perpendicular to the sea line. Tests were done to determine the distribution of this species in different environments (mussel, fucus and oyster areas) and by age classes.
According to the distribution of sizes of Thais, two major classes are identified, the first is the small individuals and they are few. The second category concerns larger individuals, which are quite plentiful.

The peak in dog whelk population density is approximately coincidental with the mid tidal zone. It lives in the middle shore. In general it can be said that at high vertical heights on the shoreline the dog whelk is most threatened by biotic factors such as predation from birds and interspecific competition for food, but abiotic factors are the primary concern, creating a harsh environment in which it is difficult to survive.

Thai live on the rocky shore without to much wave stream preferentially in the mussel area, which bring their food and shelter. They observe a lesser extent in the fucus area and there are even fewer in the oyster area.Depending on their size, these organisms privileged different habitats.

    Bonsoir,

The dogwhelk (Nucella lapillus or Thais lapillus) is a species of predatory sea snail; a marine rocky shore carnivorous gastropod mollusc from the Muricidae family.

The study that has been realised tries to shed some light on the demographic structure of Nucella lapillus populations present on the rocky shore without too much wave stream , and on the effects of the exposure mode on their distribution.

The aim of the study is to analyse the size of a lot of N.lapillus, to obtain a good representation of the different heights (c'est la hauteur de la coquille où la profondeur ou l'altitude à laquelle ils vivent ?) of the different age groups. We simply had to collect a large number of individuals . A transection was conducted along the different stages of the intertidal rocky shore of Penvins (Morbihan, France) over a total distance of 50 m and perpendicular to the sea line. Tests were done to determine the distribution of this species in different environments (mussel, fucus and oyster areas) and by age classes.

Thai sea-snails live on the rocky shore without too much wave stream preferably in the mussel area which provides their food and shelter. They can be observed to a lesser extent in the fucus area and a few of them are even to be seen in the oyster area. These organisms favour different habitats according to their different sizes.

Bonne chance !

In any case, you make yourself understood.

The dogwhelk (Nucella lapillus or Thais lapillus) is a big predator of mussels and barnacles, present on a lot of rockyshores in temperate coastline. The ecology of N. lapillus is well documented, in particular as regards their responses to environmental factors. The aim of the study is to make a link between environmental factors and the demographic structure of Nucella lapillus populations in the site of Penvins, Morbihan (56). This site gives the opportunity to study these organisms through the different stages of the intertidal rocky shore. The mass of various shelters in this site permit to analyse structure of thais populations.
According to the distribution of sizes of Thais, the method of decomposition of polymodal distributions allows to show this structure . Two major classes were identified, the first one is made of small individuals, the young, and they are few. The second category concerns larger individuals, the mature, and they are quite numerous, maybe because a largest presence of thais with various age in this last classe.
These two groups don't have the same distribution in the foreshore, the largest part of the mature are located in the upper shore with mussels and barnacles and the largest part of the young are hide in the down shore, under rocks.
This picture of the structure of these populations illustrate the ecological challenges : feeding and reproduction for adults, survival until come of age for the young. Some bias of sampling make results disputable. The analyse of the future of the young should be very interesting.

The dogwhelk (Nucella lapillus or Thais lapillus) is a big predator of mussels and barnacles that can be found on a lot of rocky foreshores on coastlines with a temperate climate. The ecology of N. lapillus is well documented, especially as regards its responses to environmental factors. The aim of the study is to make a link between these environmental factors and the demographic structure of Nucella lapillus populations on the site of Penvins, Morbihan (56). This site allows us to study these organisms from the top to the bottom of the sloping intertidal rocky shore. The many and varied shelters on this site give us the opportunity of analysing the structure of the thais populations.
The method of decomposition of polymodal distributions allows us to show this structure because of the geographical distribution of Thais according to their size . Generally speaking, two major classes are identified, the first one is made of small individuals, the young ones, and they are few. The second category concerns larger individuals, the mature ones, and they are quite numerous, maybe because a larger number of them was collected.

These two groups don't have the same geographical distribution on the foreshore, most of the mature thais live in the upper part of the shore together with mussels and barnacles whereas most of the young ones live hidden under rocks in the lower part of the foreshore.

This picture of the structure of these populations illustrates the ecological challenges imposed on both groups: feeding and reproduction is an absolute necessity for the adults, as opposed to survival until coming of age for the young ones. The possibly slanted sampling makes these results disputable but encourages us to analyse more thoroughly (more deeply) /the future / the growing up /(au sens de la croissance)of the young ones.
