    Oral/Idea of Progress
    Message de siv posté le 03-05-2014 à 15:24:23 (S | E | F)
Bonjour , j'ai besoin d'aide s'il vous plaît pour la correction de ma fiche d'oral sur la notion Idea of progress.
    Merci pour vos réponses.

The idea of progress can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change – a technical, scientific or social advance which contributes to making the world a better place. To explain this notion i chose 2 sort of progress: the scientific progress. It concerns medical advances more exactly genetically modified organisms. The second is a social progress and concerns the immigration. We can ask how does progress affect our society?
The first document is titled « Designer baby » , extracted from My Sister’s Keeper , written by Jodi Picoult in 2004(twenty o four). The text is about a thirteen-year-old named Anna. She was « creating » by her parents in the way to save her sister because she has a kidney disease. Under the commandment of her parents, scientists picked the best embryo that would be a perfect genetic match with her sister. This shows that medicine is in progress. Before, scientists were not able to do intervention like this for design babies. Indeed, the development of this technical has not always good results. In this case, Anna disagrees with her mission to give a kidney to her sister because she doesn’t did the choice. But there are no law that orders her to give it to her. So she required the help of a lawyer to defend her rights. Designer babies go on a bad way. It’s maybe a progress but it must have laws to defend or punish people who abused of this technical. The society’s mind has to progress with the technical progress. If there is creation who touches human being, the society has to adapt with.
The second document is titled « Mother of exiles » extracted from Washington is Leaking written by Art Buchwald in 1980. Mother of exiles is a fictional text because the author made the statue of liberty talk and it’s also humorous. This side of the text shows the statue is the best symbol of immigration in USA. In the text, a guy is talking to the statue about the asians immigration’s refusal. The statue looked forward Europe at the beginning of the text, at the end she turns to the West to welcome the other immigrants from Asia. It’s a progress because americans were very closed about adding immigrants from Asia. They forgot that they are child of immigration. When their ancestors came in USA, indian population was against their implantation in this country but due to this immigration of Europeans they developed the land of America so they made progress the economy of the country. After, other waves of immigration in the 19th century went on. America became a hyper-power due to immigration. Asians may come to work in America but first of all to be in secure with a better life quality. They want to progress in their social position in changing of country. American citizen’s minds progress when the statue turn around because she shows to americans that they have to welcome immigrants because they are root of economic progress and they maintain the diversity and the multiculturalism, who inspire lots of country to accept diversity. Societies now accepts better immigration since America is the model of « diversity ».
