hi! please would someone explain to me why we have to use only the short form (auxiliary to be) for sayinghow what time it is?

well.....you want to know why we can say either "it is 8.00" or "it's 8.00" is that right?? we can use both ! I don't know where the problem is.

But a sentence can't end in a subject-verb contraction, so you can't say "I'd like to know what time

you must use "it is" when you write and it's when you speak. You can use "it's" to write but it is not so "English"

Rule about the auxiliary verb to be: The contraction is always allowed except at the end of affirmative sentence.

hi! it's the test number 90 and here is a copy of the correction given:
1. 07.30 IT IS HALF PAST SEVEN Faux! Réponse correcte: IT'S HALF PAST SEVEN
2. 06.55 IT IS FIVE TO SEVEN Faux! Réponse correcte: IT'S FIVE TO SEVEN

Salut, comme ils te l'ont tous dit précédement, it's ou it is c'est exactement la même chose sauf dans le cas cité par Travis et To-be-free ou l'on doit utiliser it is.
Dans l'exercice les deux sont admis sauf que comme bien souvent en anglais il y a des contractions donc si tu lis bien, tu verras qu'au début du test il sera marqué "utiliser les contractions" ou "ne pas faire de contractions"
Je viens d'aller vérifier et regarde ce qu'il y a marqué juste au dessus, avant le début du test!!!!
