    Correction/Invisible Sun

    Bonjour,
Pourriez-vous s'il vous plait corriger cette partie de mon devoir sur la chanson "Invisible Sun ?
    Merci beaucoup pour vos réponses.

Today, I am going to present you a song, singed by The Police, called « Invisible Sun », and released in 1981.
First of all, I would like to tell you about the group.

Now you know who The Police group was, let’s look back at the song « Invisible Sun ».
This song was released on 25th September, 1981. It was the third track on The Police’s 1981 pop album titled “Ghost in the Machine“. Nowadays, it’s one of the greatest songs about The Troubles.
But, whereas other The Police’s songs about prostitutes for instance became famous and popular, « Invisible Sun » was banned by the BBC due to its political subject. Because of that fact, this song still remains underrated. In fact, they weren’t the only group to be sanctionned because of a song linked to Northern Ireland's Troubles. Indeed, we can quote, as an example, Paul McCartney's "Give Ireland Back To The Irish", similarly banned in 1972.

To come back to our subject, why was « Invisible Sun » composed ?
Actually, this song was written by Sting and, while he was living in Ireland during the Belfast hunger strikes, he wanted to bring a ray of hope.

He tought it important for the Irish to have a bit of hope for the future. In a nutshell, since 1968, the start of The Troubles, tensions had escalated between the majority Protestant population, who wanted Nothern Ireland to remain part of the United Kingdom, and the Catholic minority, who wished Irish reunification. People were afraid that bombs, violence and killings would turn into a civil war. Indeed, tensions were particularly prominent when Sting wrote « Invisible Sun », as shown by the hunger strikes with the significant pressure exerted by prisoners, and the death of several people.

That’s why, despite the dark music with a countdown at the beginning, the regular and heavy drum beats, the frightening whoah-whoah harmonies, and the unlighted tone of Sting, all reminding us the terrible atmosphere of fear there was, « Invisible Sun » bring an optimistic message transmitted in the chorus. Through the song, (est-ce correct, dans le sens "en plus de dénoncer ..." ?) in addition to denounce the atrocities of the Nothern Ireland Conflict, the attacks for example, The Police wanted to convey their hope for the end of the fights, and all the awes that go with them. This song allows the Nothern Ireland citizens to believe there are better days ahead.

In the two first paragraphs, Sting says that he doesn’t want to be a spectator of this conflict and doesn’t want to risk his life needlessly. In such a context, nor does he want to put himself in the shoes of anyone else. In fact, he doesn’t want this crisis to exist forever, even if he is not involved in. Because he has experienced it, he reject the fact that people might be in the same boat. Thus, he pointed out the possibility to be in peace in the chorus.
To me, it seems likely that the Invisible Sun represents God : the Nother Ireland Conflic had religious reasons. But it can also be anything else, provided that it bring a general hope.
No matter what religion people are, this symbolic sun would protect everyone. It’s therefore the symbol of peace, which Irish people can believe in to get through this difficult period.

On a final note, I have chosen this extract because I found it summarizes Sting’s open-minded view of The Troubles. Without taking sides in this historical controversy, Sting shares a very optimistic message to everyone, and asks them to reflect upon the usefulness of such tensions. In my opinion, Sting could have affected the Irish population in singing « Invisible Sun » without being implicated in this sectarian conflict. That’s why, I do believe it’s a shame that this song was banned.

Through the song, (est-ce correct, dans le sens "en plus de dénoncer ..." ?) in addition to on top of denouncing the atrocities of the Northern Ireland Conflict, the attacks for example, The Police wanted to convey their hope for the end of the fights, and all the awes that go with them. This song allows the Northern Ireland citizens to believe there are better days ahead.

In the two first (inversez)paragraphs, Sting says that he doesn’t want to be a spectator of this conflict and doesn’t want to risk his life needlessly.
