    Enhancement/improvement
    Message de damyoro posté le 19-12-2008 à 12:04:15 (S | E | F)

    Hello everybody,
I have some trouble finding out subtle differences in meaning between these two words:
to enhance, to improve; enhancement, improvement.

    Thank you for your help

    to improve / improvement
to make [something] better / the act or the fact of making [something] better ⇒ more quality

    to enhance / enhancement
to make [something] bigger, wider, more detailed, … / the act or the fact of making [something] bigger, wider, more detailed, … ⇒ more quantity
This is very simplified, but it may give you an idea.

to improve = to make better (generally)
to enhance = to accentuate; to make easier to notice; to make stronger, clearer, more powerful or more detailed (by some specific means)

"Improve" can be either transitive or intransitive; when intransitive, the sense is reflexive ("get better"). "Enhance" is always transitive.

Hello, all the answers posted above are correct but in fact the two words listed ar two synonyms and they usually have the same meaning...we can say to enhance sbd's knowledge or to improve sbd's knowledge...so we can add other words that they have a closer meaning as to foster...to develop to increase to evolve..etc

    Hello,
These words are not exactly similar.
You will improve your language when listening to people.
You will enhance your dress with a jewell.

The results may be similar but the words are not interchangeable.
    Best wishes.
